How to Get Started

Getting started is easy. I offer two flexible engagements that let us get to know each other while making real progress on your marketing strategy — no long-term commitment required.

Half-Day Consult

For founders who need an honest read before committing to more.

Before you invest in a bigger engagement, you need to understand where your marketing stands — what's worked, what hasn't, and where the real gaps are. This session gives you that answer in a single day.

How it works

Week before (prep): I'll review your marketing assets, campaign history, and whatever performance data exists. I meet with your leadership team about what they want marketing to deliver over the next two years.

The consult (4 hours, live): We sit down together — virtual or in person — and work through your marketing needs during a focused strategy session.

What we cover

We'll shape the session around your needs, but here's what you can expect:

  • What's actually worked in your marketing so far, and what hasn't
  • Where the gaps are on your team — including whether you need in-house execution help, not just strategy
  • How your current vendors and agencies are performing against what you're paying them
  • A prioritized list of marketing moves you can start executing immediately

What you leave with

Following our four hours together, I'll synthesize what we covered into an action plan for the next 30–90 days, depending on the complexity of your business. You'll know exactly what to tackle first, and whether that means handling it in-house, bringing in the right vendor, or going deeper with me.

1-Month Strategy Sprint

Foundation and live campaigns in 30 days along with a 3-6 month strategic playbook.

Most climate tech companies don't actually have a demand problem or a product problem. Instead they have trouble translating value to the market.

Before we touch channels or launch anything, we get clear on who you are, who you're selling to, and why they should care.

Once we've got that right, the tactics become much easier.

What we build

  • Positioning & messaging: A clear story, value proposition, and proof points that hold up against how your buyers actually decide.
  • Target accounts: A finalized ideal customer profile and a prioritized account list.
  • One to two launch-ready campaigns: Whether that's organic thought leadership, an outbound ABM motion, or another approach suited to your business — messaging and cadence built and ready to run.
  • Content engine: A content strategy built around your team's real expertise, positioning you as the authority in your category.

How the month runs

Sample breakdown. I'll customize this for your business.

Week 1 — Discovery: We dig into your assets, past campaign performance, and competitive landscape, and get your leadership team aligned on what marketing needs to deliver.

Week 2 — Positioning: We nail down who you're selling to and why they should care — your positioning, messaging, and target account definition.

Week 3 — Strategy: We build the campaign and channel strategy that puts that positioning to work — whether that's an account-based approach, a partnership motion, or another path suited to your business.

Week 4 — Roadmap & handoff: You get a documented, prioritized roadmap your team can execute — plus time with me to make sure you understand what to do next.

What you leave with

A 3-6 month strategy, 1-2 live campaigns, and a documented playbook. You can keep running your strategy run it in-house, hand it to a vendor, or bring me on for deeper support.

Ways to Keep Working Together

Once the foundation is built, most clients keep me in their corner one of two ways — deeply embedded, or on call.

Engaged Fractional CMO

Senior marketing leadership, without the full-time overhead.

For companies who need an ongoing strategic partner, not a project. I embed with your leadership team and stay close enough to guide the decisions that matter — how you position a new product, how you respond when a competitor shifts the market, how you adjust when your funding stage or go-to-market motion changes.

What this looks like:

  • A standing role in your leadership conversations — present for the strategic decisions, not every meeting
  • Ongoing positioning, messaging, and GTM strategy that adapts as your market, product, and stage shift
  • Direction for your marketing team, agency, or vendors, so their execution stays aligned to one coherent strategy
  • A regular cadence built around your pace, not a fixed hours package

Who it's for: companies with real go-to-market complexity — shifting regulatory conditions, evolving buyers, a fast-moving competitive landscape — who need senior strategic leadership close by, without hiring a full-time CMO.

Strategy Advisor

An executive sounding board, on your schedule.

Not every company needs a standing CMO engagement. Some companies need someone who knows climate tech, will tell them the truth, and is reachable when a real decision comes up.

With me as your strategy advisor you'll get: periodic, focused check-ins that keep your strategy honest as things evolve.

What this looks like:

  • Regular check-ins to review progress and troubleshoot what isn't working
  • A second opinion when it counts — a new market, a positioning shift, a channel that's underperforming
  • Enough structure to keep strategy on track, without the cost or commitment of a deeper engagement

Who it's for: companies with a marketing function already in motion — an in-house lead, an agency, a fractional hire — who want experienced judgment in their corner without adding another full engagement.

Frequently asked questions

What is a climate tech fraction Chief Marketing Officer?
As a fractional Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), I serve as the marketing executive at scaling Climate Tech companies. Depending on the stage of the company, this could involve creating branding and positioning, adjusting messaging, developing demand generation programs, or optimizing existing programs in preparation for an exit. As a member of your executive team, I provide strategy insights and work directly with cross-functional leaders. I also manage and hire in-house marketing staff, agencies, and other marketing and communications vendors.
Who do you work with?
I work with climate tech founders and CEOs from pre-seed to exit, as well as SMBs in the clean tech and renewable energy space. My clients are building technologies that reduce emissions, accelerate the energy transition, or deliver measurable sustainability outcomes — and they need marketing that matches the scale of their ambition.
Why should climate tech companies consider a fractional CMO?
Marketing leadership is often one of the last senior positions to be filled at climate tech startups, where technical product development dominates. Too often, this leaves founders to run air cover on marketing tasks, managing vendors and junior staff, and trying to make sales without a solid marketing foundation. Working with a fractional CMO gives your company the benefit of an executive-level marketing strategist, even if the budget for a full-time leader isn't feasible.
Why not hire a full-time CMO?
Many startups and growth-stage companies don’t need, or can’t afford, a full-time CMO. A fractional CMO provides the same senior-level expertise and leadership at a fraction of the cost, with the flexibility to scale as your needs grow. This means you gain executive-level strategy and oversight without the overhead. As your fractional CMO, I plug into your business in days, not months, and drive results quickly with proven systems and tools.
What if we already have a marketing team or agency?
Perfect. I don’t replace your team; I make them more effective. As a fractional CMO or advisor, I provide strategy, oversight, and alignment so your team executes with clarity and focus. Think of me as the strategic layer that ensures your investment in marketing delivers measurable results.
How do you measure success in Climate Tech?
Unlike traditional marketing agencies and consultants, I don’t focus on vanity metrics like clicks or impressions. Instead, we track what matters in climate tech: pipeline velocity, deal cycles, regulatory compliance milestones, investor confidence, and revenue growth.
Do you work globally or only in the U.S.?
Climate tech is inherently global, and I work with companies across markets. Whether you’re entering Europe, scaling in North America, or targeting investors in Asia, I adapt strategies to local regulations, buyer behaviors, and market dynamics.
What can I expect in the first 30 days of working with you?
We begin our work together with an audit of business goals, customer journey, marketing campaigns, tactics, budget, and teams. For companies in the pre-seed and seed stages that have not yet begun marketing, competitive analysis and positioning are often the starting point.

At the end of our first month working together, I will provide several strategy deliverables, including:
- Positioning canvas
- Message house
- Functional Marketing Systems Map
- KPI scorecard to track continued success
- Marketing calendar
- Priority of Marketing campaigns
- Accountability chart
- Marketing project management recommendations

Deliverables may vary depending on your company's needs and goals.
